So, without further ADO, let me show you how easy it is to turn a lot of basic shapes into mini albums or expanded accordion type cards with the simple addition of some scored tabs. Easy peasy.
To create this fun School House Album, I used Samantha Walker's cutting file School House #19523.
I created tabs measuring 1 inch by two inches using the Rounded Rectangle feature in Silhouette Studio. I also added two vertical one inch score lines to allow room for the angle of the roof, and also for embellishment on the pages.
I've included some tips and notes in the photos below. I cut the tabs out of red card stock, but I've made them brown in the display so you can see them. They look a little like bandaids!
You could disguise these, use different shapes, etc. I line everything up to get them nice and symmetrical. It helps to hold things with some clothespins.
It's really simple.
I made this album a little bigger than the size of the shape that opens up in the Silhouette Studio.
If you have a shape that has inside pieces and ungrouping doesn't release them, you may need to use the Release Compound Path feature. To use this feature, please review the notes in the photo below.
I assembled the cut pieces and created the album.
A tip I learned - it's easier to decorate the cover BEFORE creating the album.
Not shown in the photos above, I also cut out the grass and the bell and attached them to the school house.
Note: The bell, grass, and window and door backing pieces were hand colored with Spectrum Noir markers. Sometimes it's easier and wastes less paper to color small white pieces with ink or markers.
Supplies: I used the file mentioned, along with basic card stock and adhesive, and some markers. This project took one 12x12" sheet of red cardstock and scraps in white and black, making it very inexpensive.
Next, you're off to Nicole Stark's blog.
I hope these tips come in handy and help you learn to create what you like with cutting files you love.
Thanks for joining me. Come back any time!
